Carli Popplewell, student of RMIT
Some people gain knowledge through study, take this brain food, and apply it without further thought. Carli however takes this knowledge and pulls it apart as a mechanic would with a 1959 El Camino. Unfortunately Carli left for Europe and her words explaining this trade supersedes any other description. This said I will have a go at being an apprentice mechanic.
The Pixel Trade involved photographing her project in the streets of Melbourne. Carli is exploring the blurred relationship between public and private spaces, particularly in alleyways. When is the wall privately owned and when is it publicly accessible? This is explored, together with other theories, by accentuating a particular element on a wall using white paper and homemade glue. Days later, return, observe which walls have been tampered with in an attempt to remove the paper compared to which walls are untouched…
Once Carli settles into Europe I will share her description.
