Robert Everingham, blacksmith
When someone talks about a blacksmith, all sorts of Hollywood movies go flicking through my mind, for the rest of the time this person is speaking all I think about is getting ready for historic battle. I couldn’t be more wrong. Thanks film industry. Robert Everingham is a blacksmith in Brisbane, Australia and the founder of Ironfist; whilst swords and battle axes look great on film, they don’t even come close to some of the art that he creates. Being a blacksmith in this day and age is more like being a sculptural artist. There is still dirt smudging on faces and loud clanging sounds as one bashes the metal with a hammer... come to think of it it’s probably far more entertaining than any movie I’ve ever seen.
The Pixel Trade involved maneuvering between slabs of steel, 400 degree ovens and of course welding devices ‘melting’ metal together. Whilst making sure I didn’t become part of some sculptural art piece I tried focusing on capturing Robert & Rob doing what they do best...blacksmithing. I walked away with the utmost respect for the masters of this industry.
