Alexander Day + David Kaplan, Owners
As a child there was probably a local brick building with an old woman selling candy and mixed bags of lollies. When I met Alex and Dave it was like walking back into this shop, except the woman is now two young men and the mixed candy sacks are a representation of the diverse projects that these two are involved in. They are the owners of Death & Company, a cocktail bar in East Manhattan holding the reputation for setting the highest quality cocktails in the city, if not the country. These two gentlemen also have a consulting company for other bars being designed around the world. I didn’t yet mention the stylish ‘cocktail geek’ accessories under their label Gin & Luck and don’t even get me started on the new bar that is going to be opening up soon in New York City with the title Nitecap.
The Pixel Trade had a few focuses amongst their busy schedules. One was to photograph Death & Company interiors and the best of the best who work there. Part two was to capture a morning in the life of Dave & Alex as they run around doing meetings and smelling the local sidewalks. Part three was a few teaser shots of some of the new cocktails to treat your dark side with when Nitecap opens the wooden doors. You may be wondering what they traded me in return for...Guess you’ll have to wait for the book.
